I am overdue for an update, I know. I have not been on any dates, exciting or otherwise, to write about.
There's this guy I'm emailing on OkCupid... let's call him James. I actually reached out to him - he mentioned he was a vegetarian in his profile, and I messaged him about favorite veg restaurants in the city. I've been a vegetarian for about 17 years now, more or less (with the exception of an unfortunate beef carpaccio incident... ew!) It's not really important to me to date a vegetarian, but it seemed like a good introductory email.
So James and I have been writing back and forth - talking about our jobs, experiences in the city, books! He seems like a nice guy - a little nerdy, an animal lover, and like I said, it's hot when a boy can talk about books and get excited about what he's reading.
However, we're past the point where I would have wanted to meet up. I feel like internet chemistry doesn't necessarily translate into real-life chemistry, so I don't understand the delay in getting together and seeing if we click. But he seems content to be internet pen pals. What is it with guys like this? Did I accidentally sign up for a pen pal site?
As I've said before, I am a little old-fashioned and want the guy to be the one that takes the lead in dates and such. I think my part is to make my feelings clear - I'm good at doing that on dates - the flirty comments or whatever that say "I'm digging you." I'm not sure how to do that in email. I am close to just saying "Let's get together for a drink" but then I feel like I'll go into it thinking James already has one strike against him because I had to "be the man."
Don't worry Penny-- you don't need a pen pal, you need a man. If you REALLY like him, ask him out. Otherwise...NEXT!!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could say that your computer exploded and that your internet connection will be down for a while and that he might need to call you for further conversations???
