WELCOME TO OUR BLOG!
Right now you're probably asking yourself a few questions like
1.what this blog is about?
2.who contributes to it?
3.why should I read this blog?
4.will I get a tax return this year?
5.will I reach enlightenment by reading this blog?
...and other questions like that.
Well, I can pretty much answer most of those questions. Why are you worried about your taxes? Just keep a good log of your receipts, guys!
This blog is not alone in its subject matter: DATING in the modern world. While this may be well worn territory, I'll tell you what's not: the people who contribute to this blog. We're fresh out the box and ready to tantalize you with stories of speed dates, singles events, meetups, bar crawls, successful interactions with men, the big dating conundrums, and of course the dreaded ok cupid. IT'S LIKE THE FUN NEVER ENDS!
The contributors are we:
Girl #1 (that's me, I haven't come up with a sassy pseudonym yet. Yeah, sorry guys, keeping it anonymous for now. We don't want the people in our exploits to feel, well, exploited.) The goal is not to hurt anyone's feelings or to make fun where we shouldn't be making fun. It's more to get out there and go on dates, tell our stories, share our memories, understand the dating world better and also to laugh together so we don't cry.
Girl #2 (that's not me. She's going to handle her own, well handle. Anonymity is the name of the game in these parts.) She's 28. She lives in New York City. She used to be my roommate. She works with kids and knits. She's hilariously funny and is a better writer than me, so look forward to her posts! Somehow in a city full of suitors, she is still single. I don't get it. We met in 2007 and though we are not in the same city anymore, try to make it a point to keep in touch and/or visit as often as we can. All I know is that if "Banana Pancakes" by Jack Johnson comes on, we immediately lament how we are severely lacking in one banana pancake making man in our lives. She'll have to fill you in on the rest of her story in her own introductory post. Back to talking about the one subject I know best, me!
So yeah, I'm known as Girl #1 for now. I'm 29 years old. I live in Some Place Cool, VA. I study and work. I just got out of a relationship that lasted a little over a year so there may be a bit of post-break up grumblings. I promise not to downward spiral into that too often, don't worry. I just moved 3 weeks ago so I am completely new in town, having lived in New York City prior. I've had every job under the sun. I've been on dates with a wide variety of men. I've met them through friends, at bars, music shows, the workplace and yes, OK CUPID. With all of this experience under my belt, you'd think I'd know my way around the dating world, but I seem to be making every possible dating mistake. Well, why not go public and make these mistakes worthwhile?! Despite my fumbles, I do know a few things. I know a great date when I go on one. I know a guy with potential when I meet him. I know almost immediately if I want to take said guy to Boyfriendland or if we're just going to remain in the Friendzone. I also know I can be a great girlfriend and I have a lot to give. I'm using this blog experiment as an excuse to write about these experiences, to try to meet more people in this new city of mine, and to hear from YOU the reader. (Haters need not comment!)
Right now at my place of employ, the current atmosphere is all females all the time. My program of study? Female domination! What's a single late 20-something to do? I've never had problems meeting guys before, but this may be the first time in my life I have to step outside the "comfort zone" as they say. Eeeps!
Interests: music, bringing art to the masses, early 90's fashion
Strengths: humorous, outgoing, good cook, creative and artistic, good with kids, seeker of excellent cupcakes.
Weaknesses: guys with glasses/sweater vests who also play guitar, learning to reject someone graciously, not always the most punctual.
If this piques your interest, please know there is more to come! Better pen names! Guest bloggers! Articles, advice, autopsies! I couldn't think of a third 'a' word! We'll get some of our guy friends to write some stuff too! WHAT?! I know!
Girl #2, take it away!
love,
-Girl #1
